Ministry Programs

Children's Ministry

Where: St Michael and All Angels

When: 11.00am every Sunday

Come and join our Star Shine Club at Hall. We love the Lord and we meet together each Sunday to learn more about Him. We have very happy times together – we sing, we play and we praise our lovely Lord.

We have some great little puppets and we work together as a team to put on shows. Recently we did two plays -‘A Bag of Beans’ and ‘Monkey Rules’ and we felt very proud when the audience smiled and clapped. Who knows? Maybe one day we’ll be famous!

Come along and help us to shine like stars for the Lord!

Prayer Ministry

During and after Sunday Communion at
St Barnabas, members of our Prayer Ministry Team are available to pray with those who are in need, would like to give God thanks, or ask for prayer for someone else.

Members of our Prayer Link may be contacted any day of the week with requests for prayer.

Cursillistas meet weekly during school term for a group reunion and time of reflection and prayer.

A weekly gathering prays specifically for the ministry of the parish and the people of our local area. Saturday morning's Hospitality of Silence is a time of meditation in the Christian contemplative prayer tradition

Music Ministry

Music is an important part of our worship and at St Barnabas we have an enthusiastic group of musicians and singers who lead our worship with keyboard, violin, oboe, flute, and sometimes piccolo.

The children join in following children's ministry with a variety of percussion instruments.

Women's Gatherings

The women of the parish enjoy afternoon tea together monthly at the Ministry Centre.

All women, from Yr 7 high school age and up are most warmly invited to join us; transport can be arranged, just phone the office on 6258 6088 if you need a lift.

Our afternoon with the theme Second Hand Rose featured everyone wearing something purchased from an op-shop. As you can see from our photo we are all very smartly attired!

Men's Group

The men of the parish meet monthly for dinner at one of the local Clubs just to enjoy each other's company. Some months we invite a guest speaker with a focus on community issues. From time to time we organise working bees, sausage sizzles and other activities.

All men, from Yr 7 high school age and up are most warmly invited to join us. Phone Barry 6258 1195 or Michael 6258 7773 if you are interested. We love to welcome new faces.

Seniors - Barney's Open House

Barney's Open House welcomes men and women to enjoy a get-together over morning tea, 10am till 12 noon on Thursdays at the Ministry Centre in Charnwood. We have an interesting and varied program including singalong entertainment with The Brite Notes, Connections, Egyptian Belly Dance, trips down Memory Lane with Elizabeth Burness, to mention just a few. Once a month we enjoy an outing together.

Transport is provided and if you are interested in coming along or know someone who would enjoy a morning with a warm community, please contact the Parish Office at stbarnabas@bigpond.com.au or 6258 6088. We would love to welcome you.

Study / Discussion Groups

Each year we run a number of different kinds of groups on a variety of topics.

For example, following our Lenten Study we held a series of Film and Theology evenings. Lively discussion over a light dinner covered the themes of 'Amazing Grace', 'The Darjeeling Limited', 'Babette's Feast' and 'The Castle'.

Spirituality and Ageing was explored under the leadership of Rev'd Professor Elizabeth MacKinlay, Director of CAPS (Centre for Ageing and Pastoral Studies).

We began 2010 exploring the theme Finding our anchor points in a world of change, and followed up with a course called Getting Out More, designed to help us to think about the complex, many-faceted environments in which God calls us to live out our faith today and to consider how we might make a difference for God in our communities.

Trish, our priest-in-charge led us during Advent in an exploration of Who are You? exploring God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Click here for details.

Retreats, Quiet Days & Prayer Breakfasts

Throughout the year we hold mini retreats, quiet days and prayer breakfasts focussing on themes for reflection and spiritual nourishment.

These are for all members of the parish and are held either in the beautiful grounds at
St Michael's in Hall Village or at the Ministry Centre, where we have recently installed a dedicated prayer garden.
